Coffee Stops Type II Diabetes

Researcher Kun Huang from Huazhong University said, 'We found three major coffee compounds can reverse this toxic process and may explain why coffee drinking is associated with a lower risk of type II diabetes.'

The findings support previous studies indicating people who drink four or more cups of coffee a day have a 50% lower risk of getting type II diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes is a rough disease. Once bitten, a lifelong maintenance hassle results.  Those most at risk are genetically predisposed, overweight, or smoke. A full 66% of obese people eventually get the disease, and about 15% of healthy people are affected.

The medical costs are astounding.  Today, about $155 billion is spent treating diabetes, and with the obesity epidemic hitting the US, costs will double.   The entire debate over medical costs are dwarfed by the double-threat of obesity and the side-effect of diabetes on an aging population.
