Woman Denied Food Stamps Kills Self, Shoots Children

A 38-year-old woman entered the Texas Health and Human Services Commission office in downtown Laredo this week, with her two kids, a 10-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl.

She demanded to speak to a supervisor, and when confronted, pulled out a handgun taking a male supervisor hostage.  After two hours of negotiations, the woman released the hostage, but refused to come out.

"About 11:45PM, she hung up the phone with negotiators, and a little bit later, negotiators heard three shots," police said. "What had happened was that she had shot each of her children once and herself once." The kids were airlifted to a hospital in critical condition.

Politics aside, this is a monumental tragedy.  The faces of poverty not seen in the media are nonetheless out there, barely crawling along at subsistence levels.

Obama has the worst poverty rate since the Great Depression, some estimate at least 100 million are unable to buy food to feed their kids. Officially, there are almost 50 million on federal food stamps, and millions more are daily visiting local food banks.

The USA should not have starving people.  The cruel reality is, there are now millions in dire straights, unacceptable.
