'This morning we showed up at Moore Square at 9:00 a.m., just like we have done virtually every Saturday and Sunday for the last six years,' says Rev. Hollowell of Love Wins. 'Today, officers from Raleigh Police Department prevented us from doing our work, for the first time ever.'
The Raleigh Police department says 'Love Wins' violated the city ordinance which states:
'No individuals or group shall serve or distribute meals or food of any kind in or on any City park or greenway unless such distribution is pursuant to a permit issued by the Parks, Recreation and Greenway Director.'
The cops also threatened to arrest 'Human Beans Together' who had the gall to hand out food in the same square - it seems Moore Square is where the homeless hang out. And ya gotta get a permit EACH time you go down there and feed people.
The cops say it's about litter. The groups say it's about feeding hungry people. The Angle says the groups are right, the cops and the city are wrong. Oh and maybe ask the homeless to pickup their own litter? What do you say?
