Planned Parenthood has filed separate legal challenges opposing a constitutional amendment to Nevada's constitution intended to end abortion in the state - and force the issue in the more conservative US Supreme Court.
The challenge comes even before the Personhood Nevada and the Nevada Prolife Coalition have begun their petition drive to collect the signatures.
Personhood Nevada must collect at least 72,352 signatures by June 19, and voters approve them twice in general elections in 2012 and 2014 to change the constitution.
Backers of the petitions must collect signatures before court challenges are settled, otherwise risk having all signatures voided - thus, the challenge from Planned Parenthood strategy is to cutoff this process, as they did last year in Nevada.
Nevada is not alone. Similar efforts in Texas, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Montana are also underway.
