Seattle's 'Green Jobs' Program A Bust

Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn announced last year the city had won a coveted $20 million federal grant to weatherize houses as part of Obama stimulus-handout spree.

The money was supposed to create 2,000 "living-wage" jobs in Seattle.  And the work done in 2,000 homes in poorer neighborhoods.

Less than a dozen jobs and homes got done.

By the time Seattle won the award, poor neighborhood homeowners were battered by unemployment and foreclosures.  Weatherizing empty houses just didn't seem to benefit anyone

Maxine Waters, “But you know, the green jobs have been about a lot of talk, and not a lot has been happening on that.”
