Violent, controlling, and dishonest males are tricking women into pregnancy.
Why?
Psychologists say motives include leaving a legacy, asserting control, obsession with creating a family, taking advantage of the welfare system, or just plain after a sadistic thrill.
A study led by Brown University surveyed 641 ob-gyn patients. An incredible 16% had been with partners who had pricked holes in condoms or hid birth control pills. And rape is also part of the plan.
Women who're already in abusive or coercive relationships with dysfunctional males are most at risk. The phenomenon is called 'reproductive coercion.' Researchers once thought only poor and uneducated women were primary victims, but this research says it's possible in any socio-economic strata.
To combat the problem, doctors are prescribing birth control pills in plain packaging, or inserting copper IUDs. But women themselves need to be both aware of the problem, and take personal action to get away from these animals.
