Police arrested a 41-year-old Dexter White last week after he called 911 and told officers that he was not given the correct change after buying crack cocaine from a drug dealer.
White called 911 and told officers that he had given $60 to a drug dealer for crack and only got back $20 worth of drugs. White said the drug dealer refused to give him $40 back.
The call was recorded. White was locked up at the Charleston County Detention Center.
The statistics on illicit drug use are somewhat hard to find, given most do not want to acknowledge the central problem is in the minority communities. But the ugly truth is, Hispanics and Blacks engage in the majority of drug use, and drug trade in the USA.
Drugs such as Heroin, and Cocaine are near epidemic levels in cities like Detroit, Chicago, Cleveland, and Philadelphia. The link between drugs, and crime is well established. Worse are the shattered lives drug use produces.
Some even call for legalization of drugs because they feel helpless in the face of decades of struggling to eradicate the problem, ignoring the long-term ill-effects on users. At what point does the public say enough is enough? The real answer lies in a much stronger and direct reaction to known drug sources.
For instance, how about a death penalty for drug dealers? Instead of jailing addicts, lets dry up their supply. Let us resolve to deal with the drug trade as we do with the wars we fight, harshly, directly, and with deadly force and efficiency.
