Japanese designer Ryosuke Fukusada is reviving the ancient technique of 'Rokuro' (no relation). He has created an astonishing light bulb made of thin wooden layers and an LED.
The ‘wooden bulb’ prototype is pictured left. The device won the prestigious Kyoto renaissance design competition.
“This lamp has the new attraction by means of using the traditional craft technique and open up the new value of it,” Ryosuke sputters in broken English.
We agree, the lamp is new and clearly comes from old world materials which takes advantage of ancient genius, and results in a modern practical solution. Is that what you meant Ryosuke?
